A.S.S.C. ADVOCACY SUPPORT WORKER

A.S.S.C. ORGANISATION

A.S.S.C. is a not-for-profit organisation established in **Apply on
the website** to address the needs of young people as they navigate
their way through the criminal justice system. This service provides
accompaniment and advocacy for young people and their families
throughout the different stages of their engagement with the criminal
justice system.

irrespective of their means._

The following are the specific services provided by A.S.S.C.

* Forensic accompaniment for children and their families when
children undergo a forensic/medical examination at Barnahus West,
Child adolescent sexual assault treatment unit (CASATS) and the Sexual
Assault Treatment Unit (SATU), at the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin.
* National Advocacy Phone support for the families of young people
referred to A.S.S.C.
* Court accompaniment service in the Dublin region,?for young
people and their families, for children who are required to give
witness testimony in criminal trials.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The post holder will undertake the Advocacy Support Service within
Barnahus West.

They will be responsible for providing advocacy through the phone and
direct contact under the Barnahus West umbrella, to the young people
and families attending Barnahus West, in order to support children
where a disclosure of child sexual abuse has been made.

The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of and the
implementation of advocacy support for the young people and families
that move through the Barnahus West modal pathways.

The post holder will oversee the case management of the advocacy for
Barnahus West. They will be providing ongoing support to young people
and families on a case-by-case basis. The post holder will act in a
pivotal role within a multidisciplinary team. They will have access to
training within the Barnahus West Model

They will be reporting to management and compiling monthly reports.
The post holder will also work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
within Barnahus West. The post holder will be responsible for
following child protection policies and procedures of A.S.S.C. They
will be participating in regular clinical supervision.

All candidates will be subject to garda vetting.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A.S.S.C. ADVOCACY SUPPORT WORKER

* Provide debrief calls for onsite A.S.S.C. volunteers within CASAT
unit in Barnahus West
* To support the ASSC National Advocacy Support Service
* Attend the recruitment & training of volunteers for Barnahus West
* Work alongside ASSC?s National Service Coordinator & National
Volunteer Coordinator in service provision
* Provide Advocacy support for referrals within Barnahus West, to
include
* Oversite & coordination of referral to ASSC Advocacy in Barnahus
West
* Support young people and families through Barnahus pathways, by
advocating within the context of the MDIA (Multi-Disciplinary
Interagency Agency) Barnahus team
* Meeting directly with the young person & family to facilitate a
space for worries, concerns & feedback at different stages of their
pathway through Barnahus West, when appropriate, as decided through
collaborative process with MDIA team and parents?
* Be a point of information for young people and families
* Facilitate effective communication between volunteers, staff,
stakeholders and other professionals, agencies involved with Barnahus
West
* Represent the voice of the child in the Barnahus MDIA forum
* Facilitate space, voice, audience, and influence by young people
attending Barnahus
* Attend monthly joint review meetings between Barnahus and ASSC
* Completing weekly/ monthly reports to ensure good communication
and transparency for dissemination to the muti disciplinary team in
Barnahus West
* Report and provide feedback on the A.S.S.C. Advocacy Support
Worker Role
* Report statistics to management monthly for the Directors Report
* Attend monthly Clinical Supervision

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Relevant & recognised third level qualification within the domain of
social care, youth work, psychology, or any other relevant area of
study and at least 3 years proven experience of such role, or of a
similar role.

* Experience working directly with children/young people in an
advocate capacity
* Evidence of/commitment to child and youth participation
* An understanding of the Children?s First and Child Protection
guidelines
* An understanding of the role and functions of the agencies
involved in Barnahus
* A strong sense of empathy
* Confidentiality
* A solid understanding of boundaries
* Openness and flexibility in the work

* Experience working directly with vulnerable people in an advocate
capacity
* Experience in providing individual/group training
* Experience working/volunteering within the volunteer sector
* Previous experience managing people
* Previous experience within the judicial system
* Previous experience working within sexual assault treatment units
(SATU)

_TERMS & CONDITIONS_

LOCATION: Barnahus West, Galway (**Apply on the website** minute drive
from Salthill, city centre)
TERMS OF CONTRACT: A fixed term contract for 1 year, subject to Tusla
funding
HOURS OF WORK: 2 working days between Monday to Friday (**Apply on the
website** hours a week). Some occasional unsocial hours will be
required and flagged well in advance. Time in lieu system is in place.
RENUMERATION: Gross Salary ?**Apply on the website**,**Apply on the
website** pro rata
ANNUAL LEAVE: **Apply on the website** days annual leave (on pro rata
basis) exclusive of public holidays, per calendar year.
